Procedure: because of situations such as congenital abnormalities, motility disorders, corrosive injuries and cancer, esophagus may need to be replaced (esophagectomy). This process includes use of another organ (usually stomach, but sometimes small or large intestines) to replace the esophagus.
Recovery time: after esophagectomy, it usually takes 6-12 weeks to recover. Diseases require additional treatments can prolong the period to 3-4 months.
